Everyone has numerous lymph nodes in the armpit (axilla) that eliminate impurities. Lymph nodes grow when there is inflammation (e.g., nail bed inflammation) and also when there is cancer (melanoma, Breast cancer). If lymph nodes grow, then an underlying cancer (e.g. lymphoma) should be ruled out.
